Who we are
Advancing Evidence-Based Insight on Societal Resilience, Effective Governance, and Sustainable Reconstruction Processes
Welcome to the Society, War & Recovery Research Centre (SWRRC) — an independent, multidisciplinary think tank dedicated to exploring how societies evolve, adapt, and rebuild during periods of crisis, transformation, or post-conflict recovery. We analyse the complex interplay between social dynamics, governance systems, and external shocks to understand how communities and institutions respond to disruption. Bringing together researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners, we generate robust, evidence-based insights that help governments, institutions, and international partners better understand the drivers of societal resilience and the realities of long-term reconstruction across diverse contexts.
Our work spans the key dimensions of societal change — economic development, social behaviour, political transformation, institutional reform, and crisis governance. Through rigorous research, comparative analysis, and the integration of multidisciplinary perspectives, we develop a comprehensive understanding of how nations navigate uncertainty and transition. By combining analytical depth with practical policy relevance, we identify pathways toward sustainable recovery, transparent governance, and strengthened institutional capacity, supporting societies on their journey toward stability, resilience, and inclusive development.
Leadership
Founder and CEO, Dr Halyna Hrynyshyn, PhD, is an economist and researcher with over 21 years of experience in academic, research, and applied analytical work. She holds a PhD in Economics and Enterprise Management, as well as a postdoctoral qualification and the academic title of Associate Professor in Economics. Her research interests include international economic activity of enterprises, international trade, investment and innovation processes, product competitiveness, and economic policy analysis.
For a significant part of her career – 18 years – she worked in the Department of Statistics and Analysis, where she taught statistics and research methodology in economics and developed strong expertise in quantitative methods, economic, financial, project, and strategic analysis for applied and policy-oriented research. From 2018 to 2022, she served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Governance and Administration, combining teaching with empirical research in the areas of economic policy, decentralisation processes, and investment-led development.
She is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed academic publications and an active participant in international and national academic conferences. She has contributed to state-funded research projects as a researcher and analyst and has practical experience as a Chief Economist at a research institute, where she was responsible for data analysis and the preparation of analytical materials to support managerial decision-making.
Following her forced displacement to the United Kingdom in 2022, she continued her professional career in market and strategic analysis, working as a Market Data Analyst at a banking and asset management advisory consultancy. Her work combines academic depth with applied data analysis and is focused on advancing policy-oriented economic research and international collaboration.
Our Mission
Our mission is to examine how societies transform across economic, social, political, and institutional dimensions during periods of crisis or recovery. We generate evidence-based research to understand the impact of conflict, shocks, and reforms, and we develop practical, scientifically grounded policy recommendations that strengthen resilience, support inclusive recovery, and promote transparent, accountable governance.
Our Vision
We aim to become a leading international centre for knowledge on societal transformation in conflict-affected and crisis-prone environments, with a primary focus on Ukraine. We envision a future where governments and international partners rely on transparent governance tools and evidence-based policymaking to achieve sustainable peace, resilient institutions, and long-term prosperity.
